On a summer afternoon, July 16, residents of Vau i Dejës revived one of the most meaningful moments in Albanian history by reenacting the wedding of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. The performance took place near the site of the former Church of Saint Mary and attracted a large audience.
Directed by Valbona Mulaj Lluka and Markeri Hilaj, the open-air reenactment blended natural surroundings with theatrical interpretation.
The evening light became part of the visual storytelling, while local amateur actors portrayed medieval customs and historical figures with dedication.
The area of Dejës holds strong historical ties to Skanderbeg. Local tradition maintains that although the wedding celebrations were held in Ardenica, the marriage ceremony itself took place at the Church of Saint Mary.
Participants described the event as an effort to revive cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations. Organizers emphasized that the reenactment opens new opportunities for strengthening local identity and promoting historical tourism in the region.
